Collection Appreciation

This is a Famille Rose Deer Head Vase depicting the Hundred Deer Landscape, a classic Qing dynasty imperial display piece. It features a wide mouth, narrow neck, bulging belly, and tapered base, with two Ruyi-shaped handles in overglaze red on either side. The form is robust and harmonious, with smooth, graceful lines that convey dignity and grandeur. Covered in a lustrous white glaze, its surface is fine, even, and softly radiant.

The body showcases a continuous scene of the Hundred Deer Landscape painted in Famille Rose. Layered green mountains and ancient pines frame a valley stream where deer are scattered—some running, some resting, others drinking. The deer are rendered with rich color variation, while rocks and trees are delicately shaded with precise brushwork. Foreground and background are clearly distinguished, creating depth and vitality in an elegant, refined style. "Hundred Deer" (bǎi lù) sounds like "hundred blessings," symbolizing enduring prosperity, good fortune, and smooth success.

The base bears a six-character seal inscription in underglaze blue, written in regular script. The entire piece combines intricate painting with clear compositional layers, integrating landscape and auspicious animal motifs. Exquisitely crafted with refined coloring, it offers both artistic merit and meaningful symbolism, making it a premier choice for living room collection and display.
