Yongzheng Reign (Qing Dynasty) Doucai Bowl with Cover Depicting Magpies on Plum Blossoms

<p>This Yongzheng Imperial kiln斗笠-style covered bowl represents the pinnacle of Doucai (overglaze polychrome) craftsmanship in the Qing Dynasty. Crafted using the traditional two-firing Doucai technique, the piece features a fine and vigorous underglaze blue outline of the entire design, fired at high temperatures to form the porcelain body. Overglaze colors are then filled within the blue outlines and fired again at lower temperatures. Under Emperor Yongzheng's reign, the overglaze coloring techniques reached perfection: pigments precisely align with the underglaze blue lines without overflow or gaps. Notably, it innovatively incorporates fencai (powder color) shading methods, giving flowers, leaves, and birds distinct layers of light and shadow, breaking away from the flat, monotonous style of Ming Dynasty Doucai.
