Collection Appreciation
This is a standard 7.2 mace tael main currency minted by the Imperial Mint in Guangxu Year of the Qing Dynasty. As an official central government issue, it is a premier "Dragon Dollar" (Longyang) type with exceptional collector recognition. The inscriptions are deeply struck and well-defined: the "Guangxu Yuanbao" regular script is dignified and strong, while the outer rim text indicating weight and mint is crisp. The reverse features a fully three-dimensional dragon design with complete details on the head, whiskers, and scales, distinct cloud layers, and sharp English lettering. The coin exhibits an even, natural aged patina with a warm silver tone, moderate circulation wear, and no repairs, marks, or cracks, qualifying as a Choice Circulated specimen. With fewer surviving examples than provincial Dragon Dollars, this piece sees strong market demand at auctions and combines historical significance with precious metal value. Its original, uncleaned patina enhances its premium appeal in auction settings, making it a highly competitive lot for Qing Dynasty Longyang collectors.
