This Ming Dynasty Hongwu Imperial Kiln Ru (Underglaze Red) Hu-Chun vase features a graceful and dignified silhouette with an everted rim, a long tapering neck, a full rounded belly, and a thick circular foot. Its smooth, robust lines embody the bold and majestic porcelain style of early Ming. The body is decorated in layered underglaze red: a scrolling vine pattern adorns the rim, while the neck displays plantain leaf motifs, meander patterns, and ruyi cloud designs. The main belly is covered with intricate trailing peony flowers, their winding stems flowing continuously and petals rendered in rich layers. Near the foot, lotus petal and Eight Treasures motifs complete the composition—elaborate yet harmoniously arranged.

The body is thick and dense, coated in a warm, slightly greenish-white glaze. The underglaze red exhibits a deep, antique hue with natural iron-rust speckles—a hallmark of Hongwu-period pieces. Brushwork is vigorous and rustic, with a full, commanding composition. The foot is neatly trimmed, revealing clear traces of aged fire-red patina on exposed clay areas. Due to the extreme difficulty of firing underglaze red, especially for large, intact vessels like this one, such examples are exceptionally rare. Combining masterful craftsmanship with the artistic spirit of early Ming, this piece stands as a precious imperial display object from the Ming dynasty, holding immense collector value.
