The Xianglin Temple "Wash the Heart" Giant Celadon-White Glazed Hand-Washing Bowl is a monumental ceramic vessel specially commissioned for religious display. Weighing over 150 kg, its creation demanded exceptional craftsmanship. The bowl was hand-thrown on a wheel, featuring uniform concentric marks on the interior and raised relief characters reading "Wash the Heart" on the exterior. The base bears the inscription "Xianglin Temple," marking it as a sacred ritual object used by devotees to cleanse their hands and calm their minds before offering incense. Coated in a lustrous celadon-white glaze using an ancient spray-firing technique, it was fired at temperatures exceeding 1400°C. Remarkably, this large-scale piece remains perfectly intact, free from warping or cracking—a rarity given the high failure rate of such massive ceramics during firing. This artifact embodies the Zen Buddhist philosophy of "purifying the heart and mind," representing a rare fusion of ceramic artistry and spiritual tradition. Due to the extreme difficulty in producing large, flawless pieces, complete temple ritual vessels of this scale are exceptionally scarce.
