Collection Appreciation

This piece is a high-end official kiln product from the Yongzheng period. It features a flared rim, thick neck, full shoulders, and a rounded belly with an outward-flaring foot, presenting a robust and majestic form. The exterior is decorated with blue-and-white branches and leaves, while underglaze red depicts fruits such as peaches, pomegranates, and grapes—symbolic motifs known as the "Three Blessings" design. Pomegranates represent numerous offspring, peaches symbolize longevity, and grapes signify abundant happiness; together they form the auspicious "Three Blessings" pattern. Producing blue-and-white with underglaze red was exceptionally challenging due to differing temperature requirements for the two colorants, leading to the saying that "nine out of ten kilns fail." This piece boasts clear blue pigments and stable, pure red tones, making it truly rare. Its composition balances density and spacing with delicate, refined lines, perfectly reflecting the elegant aesthetic of the Yongzheng era. The fine body and glaze, along with meticulous craftsmanship, exemplify the superior porcelain-making standards of the imperial kilns, marking this as a significant official ware masterpiece.
