Song Dynasty, Sichuan: Set of Four Tri-color Glazed Figurines

This set of four Sancai (three-color) figurines from the Song Dynasty Guangyao kiln in Sichuan features diverse figures including civil officials, warriors, and musicians. The figures stand with dignified postures, displaying clear clothing textures and distinct facial expressions, glazed in green, yellow, and brown. Song Dynasty pottery figurines were typically used as burial attendants, reflecting contemporary social attire, music, dance, and official ranks. Distinct from the northern Tang Sancai style, these Sichuan pieces feature softer glazes and more lifelike human forms, showcasing a unique regional character. The complete set offers a vivid glimpse into everyday life during the Song Dynasty. Preserved for over a millennium, such sets are invaluable artifacts for studying regional customs, fashion, and ceramic craftsmanship in southwestern China, holding significant historical and archaeological value.
