As the eldest son of renowned traditional Chinese painter Fu Baoshi, Fu Xiaoshi endured a life filled with hardship. Wrongfully imprisoned in his youth and exiled, he suffered leg injuries during his incarceration. Just as his name was cleared, he suffered a stroke that left his right hand completely paralyzed. Relying on sheer willpower, he practiced painting exclusively with his left hand. His left-hand works are rare, each embodying the artist's indomitable spirit.

This masterpiece, "Ladies Viewing the Waterfall," marks the culmination of Fu's six decades in the art world and represents the maturity of his left-hand technique. Painted entirely by his disabled left hand, the brushstrokes naturally carry a unique texture of resistance and pause. The ink is bold and heavy, condensing a lifetime of ups and downs into every line and shade. This distinct artistic quality could never be replicated with his right hand.

The painting features towering mountains rendered in expressive splashes of ink, with a waterfall cascading down steep cliffs. Mist swirls among the peaks, while tiny swallows slice through the sky, creating a scene that is both ethereal and grand. Five elegantly dressed ladies stand at a railing, leisurely admiring the landscape. Their soft, refined colors harmonize beautifully with the majestic mountains and water.
